POC ColorShift v1.7 - Visual Upgrade & Chronicles Preview

Hey everyone!
POC ColorShift v1.7 is now live with a major visual transformation. This update marks an important milestone in testing workflows for ColorShift Chronicles, a larger commercial project I’m working on.
What’s New in v1.7
From Cubes to SciFi Station
The most obvious change: the visual upgrade. Version 1.6 used simple scaled cubes for walls and floors. Version 1.7 replaces them with modular SciFi assets from a professional asset pack.
The result: a +133% visual improvement (from 3/10 to 7/10 on my internal quality scale). Same puzzle mechanics you know, but wrapped in a proper SciFi space station aesthetic.
Technical: Blueprint Room Creation
Behind the scenes, I built BP_CS_DynamicRoom, a production-ready Blueprint that generates rooms using modular components:
- 400cm walls with centered openings for doors
- Modular floor tiles (no more scaled cubes)
- Instanced Static Meshes for performance
- Separate instances per wall direction (enables directional transparency for top-down view)
This Blueprint validates the workflow for creating levels in future projects.
Why Release This as POC v1.7?
I’m validating the workflow before committing to larger production. Testing modular assets in a known context (1 level) with lower risk. Once validated in the POC, I can confidently apply this workflow to bigger projects.
This is part of my “build in public” approach: ship small, learn fast, iterate based on real data.
What’s Next
POC v1.7 validates the technical foundation for ColorShift Chronicles, a full commercial game with multiple levels, complete progression, and Steam release. This POC gives you a visual preview of that direction.
Try POC v1.7 Now
The POC is free to play on itch.io:
- Windows build: Available now
- Android build: Available now (bonus, great for showing the game on mobile at meetups)
Gameplay is identical to v1.6: color-switching puzzles in a single test level. The upgrade is purely visual and workflow. If you’ve played v1.6, try v1.7 to see the visual transformation.
Feedback Welcome
This is still a proof-of-concept. It’s not polished, it’s not complete, but it’s shippable and playable. If you try it and have feedback (especially on visuals, atmosphere, or technical issues), just drop a comment or reach out.
Thanks for following along. – Arnaud Boötes Dreams
